Trojans Name New Football Coach

The Fairfield Community School District has announced the appointment of Matt Jones as the varsity head football coach.

Pending board approval, Jones will officially begin his duties in the 2024-25 season. Jones brings 23 years of teaching and coaching experience, including two seasons as head coach of the varsity Trojans football team (2017 to 2018) and many years as an assistant coach. 

Previous to joining  the Trojans Jones served as head coach of the varsity football and boys’ track teams at Twin Cedars, in addition to serving as assistant softball coach and athletic director. Under Jones’ leadership, the Sabers qualified for the state football playoffs three times, securing district championships and making a state semi-final appearance in 2002. 

Jones joined FCSD in 2008 as a middle school physical education teacher and assistant seventh-grade football coach. He became defensive coordinator of the varsity team in 2009, contributing to FHS’s successful state playoff berth.
