Several years ago the City of Fairfield identified a significant need for affordable housing, especially when attempting to attract talent to the local workforce. That gap has minimized a bit recently with the assistance of the workforce housing tax credit program. The program is intended to Assist in Construction or Rehabilitation of Housing in Communities with Workforce Housing Needs such as Fairfield.
One local project that is being funded primarily through the program is North Campus Village, which is expected to offer approximately 180 one and two story townhomes. Residences that have already sold in the Village have gone from around $125-135K. This program especially focuses on those projects using abandoned, empty or dilapidated properties, with total program benefits limited to $1 million per project. The tax incentives include a refund of sales, service or use taxes paid during construction
