White House officials believe that Russian criminal organization is to blame for recent cyberattacks on processing company JBS USA and their IT systems. The company confirmed that systems were in fact affected resulting in the halt of some productions at their Iowa facilities in Marshalltown and Ottumwa.
According to a Facebook post, first and second shifts on the kill floor in Marshalltown were cancelled. In Ottumwa, production on its kill floor and bacon processing ceased.
Doug Jacobson, a professor at I.S.U, who is also a cyber security expert shares concerns with the White House. Jacobson feels that the increased ransomware threats pose a major issue as it relates to critical infrastructure as well as supply chains.
Normal operations are set to resume Wednesday, however bacon slicing and first and second harvest production shifts are canceled at the Ottumwa Facility.
