While Cases Have Surged In Jefferson County, Death Toll Continues To Rise For Neighboring Counties

40 more Iowans have passed away due to complications from the coronavirus, setting a new record for any 24 hour stretch since the pandemic began. 4 of those deaths were from here in Southeast Iowa. 3 were reported in Wapello County, 2 over the age of 80 and the other over 40. The County is now at 79 fatalities overall. Keokuk County reported the other death, their 3rd.

After being at 311 active cases Tuesday, Jefferson County added 11 more Wednesday. Wapello County increased by 28, Davis and Henry Counties 27 each. Washington County is up 26, Keokuk County 13 and Van Buren County 5. Hospitalizations hit a new high, that number reaching 1,527, 283 in ICU, 134 on ventilators. Jefferson County has risen to 6 while Henry County is now up to 19 in the hospital.
