Voters Approve PPEL Levy For Local Districts

On Tuesday residents of Ottumwa, Cardinal and Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont school districts made their way to polls, approving a maximum Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL) of $1.34 per $1,000 assessed valuation. The additional funds can be used for items such as school maintenance, construction and equipment purchases. The voter-approved rate will expire in 10 years. Two school board vacancies were also up for vote with Trevor Brown running uncontested for the Cardinal seat, as did Patti Maloy for the open Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont school board spot.  The unofficial vote totals for each District are shown below:
