Trojans Fall In Substate Semifinal

Thursday night, the Fairfield boys basketball team traveled up to Newton for their semifinal matchup against the Newton Cardinals. Newton jumped out to a 23-12 in the first quarter, after fitting five shots from beyond the arc. The Trojans were able to pull within single digits in the third quarter, but could never get the lead and would lose 72-52.

The 96 mile trip was not enough to have great community support for Fairfield. The school was able to put together a bus of 45 students to send to the game. Also in attendance was Principal Aiddy Phomvisay, Superintendent Dr. Laurie Noll and Activities Director Jeff Courtright.

JJ Lane led the way with 27 points, along with a rebound. Tate Allen finished with 11 points and seven rebounds. Max Weaton could not get going inside as he finished with three points and 11 rebounds and three assists. Riley Perkins had five points and two boards. Ryan Higgins finished with three points and two rebounds on the night. Sam Weaton added two points, two assists and a rebound and Myles McEntee had a point and two rebounds.

With the loss, the Trojans’ season ends. It was a good season for Fairfield, finishing with their first winning season in four years with a 12-10 record. They defeated three ranked teams and were finally able to take down Washington in the first round of the playoffs.
