Traffic Stop Leads To Ottumwa Man Facing Several Felonies

An Ottumwa man was arrested after a traffic stop early Friday morning turned up drugs, packaging material and a loaded gun. Around 1:20am Ottumwa police stopped 39 year old Kory Joe Derby of Ottumwa for no front license plate and suspicion of driving without a valid drivers license. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of just over 2 ounces of meth, around 16 grams of marijuana, packaging materials consistent with distribution and a loaded 9mm firearm.

Derby has been charged with possession of meth with intent to distribute, a class B felony; and prohibited acts; drug tax stamp violation and felon in possession of a firearm, which are all class D felonies.

He was also charged with driving with a suspended license and possession of drug paraphernalia.
