A woman and toddler were able to avoid serious injury after the stroller she was pushing while attempting to cross the road was struck by a vehicle. The accident happened just before 10am Friday morning near the intersection of South Main and Burlington in Fairfield. According to an eyewitness the woman was pushing the stroller while attempting to cross Burlington, walking North when a middle aged man operating a vehicle with Jefferson County plates failed to stop upon approaching, striking the stroller, knocking it and the toddler to the ground.
The child was evaluated at the scene by medical personnel and did not appear to have suffered any visible injuries. The woman, who was not injured in the collision, left with the child by private vehicle registered from Van Buren County. The accident is under investigation by the Fairfield Police Department. It’s unknown at this time if any criminal charges will be filed against the driver of the vehicle. KMCD/Classic 96 news will have further details as they emerge.
