Surveillance System Leads To Ottumwa Mans Arrest In Arson Fires

With an assist from The City’s Street surveillance system Ottumwa police have made an arrest related to a string of suspicious fires back on August 27th. 18 year old Tanner Simmers of Ottumwa was arrested after authorities were able to positively identify the vehicle he was driving, matching the description of the one that fled three separate businesses early that morning after setting fire to debris outside each location. Gilworth Furniture, Dollar General and Hobby Lobby all sustained damage to their buildings as a result of the fires spreading. Simmers is charged with three counts of second-degree arson, all Class C Felonies. He is currently free on bond.
