Republican candidate Marianette Miller-Meek’s six vote win in Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District was certified by the State Board on Monday. Democrat Rita Hart is expected to challenge the ruling in court and if she decides to take that route has two days to do so.
If this does occur the process calls for the organization of a contest court, which would include Iowa Chief Justice Susan Christensen and four appointed district court judges chosen by the Iowa Supreme Court. That group would rule on which candidate would fill the seat by Dec. 8th. The 6 vote difference was the closest federal election in the country this year.
