Pekin Volleyball Sees Surprising Shake Up In Coaching Staff

On Tuesday night the Pekin Community School District voted to approve Jordan Mohs as the head coach of the Pekin Varsity Volleyball team. Mohs had been the team’s assistant but was thrust into the head coaching roll after former coach Rusty Crabtree resigned just hours before their match on Tuesday, September 6th.

Crabtree took over as head coach before the 2020 season and the Panthers had an over record of 11-35 in those two plus years. Rusty declined to comment on the reasoning for his resignation

In the three matches since Coach Mohs was put as the head coach, the Panthers have won two of them. She says that is largely in part to a completely new defensive strategy that they implemented the night she took over.

Coach Mohs joined the high school coaching staff in 2021 as an assistant. Before that she helped coach the winter volleyball league in Sigourney for the high school team for two years, coached a freshman club team out of Oskaloosa for three years and was a junior high coach for a year.
