The City of Ottumwa has received the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance grant. $19,000 went to the city with $3,000 going to the county. During the Ottumwa city Council meeting Tuesday September 7th, the Ottumwa police chief Chad Farrington explained how the extra money given to the department would help. The department would purchase two digital watchdog cameras and a drone. Watchdog cameras are used on the outside and inside of buildings. While they plan to use the drone for helping with assisting mental health cases or if someone is hard to reach. Chief Farrington said they would be able to go in and set up communication, and possibly get eyes on the person without actually sending a human person in there. Which would greatly reduce risk.
