At least one person was injured and their home a total loss following a house fire in Birmingham this past Saturday afternoon. Around 3:20pm the Birmingham Volunteer Fire Department received reports of the fire in progress in the 17000 block of 110th Road in Birmingham. Upon arrival the home was fully engulfed and beginning to collapse. After requesting mutual aid from Douds crews were on the scene for just under 5 hours, periodically checking in throughout the night for any additional hotspots.
The homeowner was present at the time and was taken to the hospital to receive treatment for burns sustained. The cause of the fire is believed to have come from a heater inside the residence. At this time the Kerr family is in the process of figuring out their needs and will set up a donation spot in the near future.
