Local Partnership Aims to Attract More Talent To The Region

Fairfield, IA – A cooperative consortium of community stakeholders has joined forces to promote the Iowa South region as a wonderful place to live, work, thrive and grow. The primary goal of the group is to attract the workforce needed for our local employers to continue to expand and offer quality goods and services.

The geographic region of Iowa South is made up Appanoose, Davis, Jefferson, Keokuk, Lucas, Mahaska, Monroe, Van Buren, Wapello and Wayne counties. Economic development professionals from these counties, along with Indian Hills Community College, are working hard to get the Iowa South message out to people across the nation.

Iowa South Week, March 8th through 14th, is designed to raise awareness among local stakeholders and encourage people already living in Iowa South to share their own stories about what makes Iowa South such a great place. The easiest way for locals to share their Iowa South story is by visiting the Iowa South website at In addition to learning more about the initiative here, there is a quick form that individuals can fill out if they are interested in sharing their Iowa South story with a larger audience. Iowa South would like to promote stories that highlight our quality of life, great employment opportunities and/or cultural diversity. The group is also interested in feedback from people who have moved to Iowa South about their experience and what attracted them to our regional initially.

Iowa South is also on Facebook,, and will be sharing stories through this platform as well. Groups that are promoting events held in the region, or positive local news stories, are encouraged to use the hashtag, #IowaSouth. While Iowa South has initially been focused on helping local employers attract additional talent to our region, the group is also dedicated to supporting local initiatives that help match local residents with new opportunities.
