Lack Of Participation In Meal Program Impacting Food Service Department’s Budget

As the Fairfield Community School District prepares to return to classes next week, Meal Order forms are now open for the week and must be completed by 9pm Sunday night.

For the Trojan Group Meals will be distributed to students at the end of the day on Tuesday. For the Power Group Meals for Monday through Wednesday need to be picked up on Monday between 5-6pm at the Middle School by the loading dock, this is also the pickup time for the Virtual group/Pre-K and Non School age children. These meals are free of charge to children 2-18 years old and your children do not have to be enrolled in the district to receive these meals.

The School Board recently met and expressed their concern over the lack of participation in the meal program and the negative impact it has on the food service departments budget. Back in November when the District was doing all virtual classes, only around 400 students signed up, compared to the 1,100 or so during a normal year. Each time a student takes a breakfast or lunch, the district is reimbursed $30.
