The Jefferson County Board Of Supervisors met in regular session on Monday morning where they awarded the local gravel contract to Douds Stone LLC for maintenance of gravel roads in Jefferson County. As part of Douds’ bid that came in at $323,735, they will do the hauling to and from. Jefferson County Quarry was the other bid, coming in around $58,470 above Douds at $382,205, with contract renewal to be reviewed yearly.
A Discussion was also held regarding the Engineer position and other staffing in the secondary roads department. The engineer position should appear on the Iowa DOT website, along with various other hiring websites. Other positions within the department should appear publicly in the near future. A contingency discussed was possible staff sharing with other nearby Counties in the interim, which the board said is not all that uncommon. The Sharing would be in the event the position is not filled by the time current engineer Scott Cline departs the position June 30th.
