Jefferson County Public Health said on Tuesday that the Iowa Department of Public Health is basing death counts off of the COVID ICD-10 death code. If the code is not on the death certificate, even though the person had a positive test, the death may not be counted. Also, it is possible the death certificate has not been coded so the number may increase later.
Of the 9 deaths in the county, Covid was the Underlying Cause in 8 of them and was the Contributing factor in the other.
The County has seen an increase of 28 cases combined Monday and Tuesday. Active cases have declined in the County the last several days, going from 402 around 5 days ago, down to 360 on Tuesday.
