IHSAA Announce Preliminary Classifications For Football

The Iowa High School Athletic Association released the Preliminary Classifications for the upcoming football season. In these Classification rankings, Fairfield stayed in class 3A, as did Washington. Mount Pleasant just barely dropped to 3A, but if numbers change they could move up to 4A. The Cardinal Comets are set to be in Class 1A, while Van Buren County and Pekin are in A.

These changes come after the IHSAA changed the way classifications are set for football, now adding a socioeconomic factor into final numbers. The change will take a portion of the school’s free and reduced lunches and subtract it from the school’s BEDS enrollment, which is the enrollment of 9th-11th graders currently at the school.

Once these classifications are verified, the IHSAA will develop and share districts as early as next week, with an estimated release for football schedules being released in mid-April.
