The U.S House committee has voted to review the result of Iowa’s second congressional district race from last November between Republican Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Democrat Rita Hart, a race in which Miller-Meeks was declared the winner by a slim margin of 6 votes.
The State of Iowa certified Miller-Meek’s six vote victory and she was sworn into the U.S. House in January. At the time Hart had already petitioned, claiming 22 ballots in her favor, that would have ensured her victory were not counted.
The committee voted six to three, along party lines, in favor of reviewing the election. Miller-Meeks was seeking to have Hart’s petition dismissed, however her request was denied by the committee.
