High Speed Chase Through Several Counties Ends With Arrest

Wednesday afternoon around 1:20pm, the Wapello County Sheriff’s Office were alerted by the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office of a vehicle attempting to elude them traveling northbound on Hwy 16 at a high rate of speed. It was also relayed that they were just about to enter Wapello County near Eldon. The driver of the fleeing vehicle, 28 year old John Broeksmit of Dwight, Illinois, eluded police for several Counties reaching speeds of up to 110 mph.

During the course of the pursuit spike strips were deployed on several occasions. At approximately 2:10 P.M., Broeksmit stopped the vehicle near the Monroe exit on Hwy 163. He exited the vehicle and was taken into custody without Incident. Wapello County Deputies have filed criminal complaints for Eluding and Interference with Official Act. Several Law Enforcement agencies assisted in the chase.
