Hedrick Man Sentenced To 25 Years For Role In Packwood Bank Robbery

A Hedrick man found Guilty of 1st degree robbery in Jefferson County back in October was sentenced to 25 years behind bars for his role as the getaway driver in a 2018 Packwood Bank Heist. 36 year old Ross Edward Thornton of Hedrick, was the only one of three defendants that went to trial in the case. The other two, 30 year old Ethan Spray of Ottumwa and 31 year old Jordan Crawford of Mt. Pleasant pled guilty.

Thornton was also previously sentenced to 10 years in prison for robbing the exact same bank years earlier. He was ordered to repay $14,548 in restitution to Pilot Grove, split 3 ways between himself, Spray and Crawford. Thornton has filed his intent to appeal. The three were also charged with robbing the Ottumwa Savings Bank Branch in Hedrick around the same time as the Packwood robbery.
