A Hedrick man was taken into custody after taking authorities on a chase through Ottumwa on Sunday afternoon. According to court records, a deputy from the Wapello County Sheriff’s Office noticed a vehicle driving without a front license plate at the intersection of North Court St. and Woodland Ave and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. That’s when 36-year-old Brett Shull of Hedrick sped away allegedly throwing items from the vehicle off of the Market Street Bridge during the course of the chase.
The pursuit ended when Shull was rear ended by deputy after slamming on his brakes.
He was taken to the Wapello County Jail and charged with assault on a peace officer, a Class D felony, and eluding, an aggravated misdemeanor. His bail has been set at $5,000.
