On Thursday morning it was announced that there will be a recount in all 24 Counties of Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District, as requested by Democratic candidate Rita Hart. Republican candidate Mariannette Miller-Meeks holds a slim 47 vote lead over Democrat Rita Hart.
The election is set to be certified on November 30th, although the Thanksgiving holiday when County offices are closed must be taken into account.
In the request, Hart’s campaign manager cited what he referred to as “consequential errors” that were discovered in both Jasper and Lucas Counties, saying that Iowa’s voters deserve to know that their ballots have been accurately counted.
Information regarding the recount here in Jefferson County will be shared when made available.
