The CDC is recommending that school districts across the Country continue mask protocols at least through the end of this school year. CDC officials said the school masks guidelines should stay in place primarily because children under the age of 12 are not yet eligible for vaccination. The CDC said it plans to officially update guidance for schools in the coming weeks to help districts prepare for the upcoming school year.
On Monday night the The Fairfield Community School Board voted unanimously to keep the mandate in place for the remainder of their school year. The Board said prior to the meeting they were contacted by Jefferson County Public Health recommending the District continue their current mitigation practices. They also said only 0.1% of school aged children being vaccinated in the County played a role in their decision.
