This past Friday, after deliberating for eight hours over the course of two days, a Jefferson County jury returned a verdict of guilty on all counts in the criminal trial of 29 year old Michael Alexander Coon of Fairfield. Coon stood charged with two counts of Sexual Abuse in the Second Degree, and one count of Child Endangerment.
The charges stemmed from allegations that he sexually abused a minor girl between ages 6 and 7 when residing as a member of her household, in 2018 and 2019.
At trial, the victim, now eight, testified that coon, her mother’s boyfriend, would enter her room after her mother would go to work in the morning and commit the acts.
Coon is being held without bond at Jefferson County jail until sentencing, which is set for April 26th. Sexual Abuse in the Second Degree carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 17.5 years. If sentenced consecutively on all charges, he could be ordered to serve up to 52 years in prison.
