Because of the ongoing Covid pandemic Greater Fairfield Area Habitat for Humanity wasn’t allowed to use volunteers to construct a home in 2020 they received an assist from “Homes for Iowa.” The non-profit organization exists to address Iowa’s housing shortage and also train offenders in skilled trades. Their plan is to build 875 moderately priced homes over the next 10 years in collaboration with Iowa Prison Industries.
3-bedroom, 2-bath ranch style homes are built for individuals and families and delivered all over Iowa. Recently they did just that, delivering the new home on North 12th street in Fairfield, the family to reside there and Fairfield Habitat both sharing the excitement. Volunteers are still needed to put the finishing touches on the home. Projects include, Front porch, back porch, flooring and landscaping. If you would like to get involved contact [email protected]
