The Fairfield Fire Department was paged out to a structure fire in the 2000 block of N. B St. at 3:33 AM on Sunday morning. First arriving crews found heavy fire on the backside of the structure extending from the lower deck area to the upper deck area. Crews from Fairfield and Packwood battled the flames for a little over an hour before getting the fire under control and beginning overhaul operations.
In all there were 19 firefighters from Fairfield with a pumper and an aerial truck along with 10 firefighters and a pumper truck from Packwood. All seven occupants in the house made it out safely and the house was equipped with working smoke detectors.
Firefighters were assisted on scene by the Fairfield Police Department, Care Ambulance And Alliant energy.
One firefighter sustained minor injuries at the fire. Crews were back at the station and back in service by 7:30 AM.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time.
