The Fairfield City Council met in a regular session on Monday night where they received the report from Klingner and Associates on the Future Fire Station Site Selection. Klingner conducted analysis on 5 separate locations around the City. After briefing the Council on the pros and cons of each location, the existing site and the former D.O.T buildings were the 2 preferred spots. Either way a significant amount of work will be required as the City does not own the current site, which presents a challenge and also brings the question where does the Fire Department operate out of while any rehab or remodeling work would be conducted at the current site.
The Council discussed the possibility of approaching the County, who is the owner of the current site, about a possible property swap or purchasing the property from them all together. As it goes for the former D.O.T buildings, one would likely need to be demolished and significant upgrades to the other. At this time there are more questions than answers, however with additional structural analysis and a discussion with the County, we should know more in the near future.
