This week the Fairfield City Council accepted and awarded the bid for Proposed Street reconstruction of Merrill & Carpenter Avenues to Jones Contracting out of West Point. Jones had the lowest bid for either the concrete to asphalt alternative, theirs being concrete at a price of $248,777, around $80K below the engineers estimated contract cost.
Jones was one of 7 bids total and the $80k will be used as a contingency.
The City currently has around $2M worth of road projects set for this coming summer so that $80K can be used at their discretion. The City is expected to announce sometime in the near future when that construction is officially set to begin.
