The American Legion Auxiliary #47 in Fairfield is launching a drive for items needed at Marshalltown Veterans Home. Items collected would be delivered to the Veterans Home prior to Christmas in December. The First Christian Church, 1905 S Junction Rd in Fairfield (across from Jefferson County Health Center) has consented to being a drop-off location for donated items up to December 1, with designated times for dropping off. Items can be dropped off Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; since the door is locked, persons wishing to drop off items during those hours would need to ring the door bell, which will be answered by the Secretary who can lead donors to the drop-off box.
Any clothing being donated must be NEW – not used – with the primary need being sizes XL to 6X. Snack items include diet regular pop in bottles or cans, and items like candy bars (full and snack size) and Little Debbies must be individually wrapped. Personal Care items–such as shampoo, body lotion, body washes, and shaving cream–cannot be in travel size; electric razors, electric toothbrushes, Women’s make-up and jewelry are also an ongoing need. Forever postage stamps, large-print playing cards, adult coloring books, puzzles of 500 pieces or less, handheld electronic games, and Crossword/Jumble/ Word Search books are always welcome. Persons wishing a more complete list of smaller items, and/or a list of large item needs, like TV, may contact Darlene Vorhies at 641-472-4449 or [email protected].
