Press Release from the Fairfield Chamber:
The Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce has announced that the Holiday Lighting Ceremony in Central Park scheduled for Friday, November 27th , has been cancelled for 2020. This action comes upon the Governor’s mandate to prohibit large gatherings until December 10th. The Santa House and Workshop will also be closed during this time. Children are encouraged to write a letter to Santa and drop it off in the special North Pole mailbox located on the square near the Santa House.
There will still be the magical moment when the holiday lights on the square come on every night around 6PM from 11/27/20 until New Years Day, and holiday music will be played from approximately 8A-8PM through this time period. A sight to see… from the safety of your car, or in small numbers outside.
“2020 has challenged our community unlike anything most of us have ever seen. As a favorite moment by so many people in our community, cancellation of this event was the most difficult decision we have made this year,” said Chamber CEO, Darien Sloat. “Because of the popularity of this event, we kept looking for ways to make this happen in a safe fashion, but ultimately the Governor’s mandate made that decision for us. We especially wanted to keep the Santa House and Workshop open, but at the end of the discussion, the Chamber’s Christmas Committee unanimously agreed that any public event during this current state of the pandemic would add unnecessary risk to our community in a time when we all need to exercise the highest level of caution yet during this crisis.”
From 11/23/20 through 12/14/20, Fairfield retailers and restaurants will have canisters to sign up for the Holiday Chamber Bucks Giveaway drawing to win one of five $50 Chamber Bucks gift certificates. Presenting Sponsors of the Holiday Lighting Ceremony, Nathan Gamet and Paul Praither from Everybody’s Whole Foods, have agreed to move their sponsor money for that event to add a single $500 Chamber Bucks winner to the drawing as a way to incentivize people to Shop Local this year. In addition, they have asked that the remaining $500 be shifted to the Chamber’s general operating fund this year. Thank you Nathan and Paul!
