Jump on your pennyfarthing and come out to the Jefferson County Trails system for the fifth annual Jefferson County Trails Council (JCTC) Scavenger Hunt. The Jefferson County Trails system will play host to this all-ages event from May 25 to July 5, 2019.
Participants will collect clues at 10 locations along the trail to be entered in drawings for prizes like free ice cream and a gift card to Ila in Fairfield. Drawings for prizes will take place the evening of July 5 at Central Park during Fairfield 1st Fridays.
This event is a great way to get out and see all the trails in Fairfield and Jefferson County have to offer. JCTC Chairman Stephen Pedrick explains this year’s theme is Steampunk. “With RAGBRAI stopping overnight in Fairfield, we wanted to play off the Steampunk theme and get people excited before the largest bicycling event in the state spends the night in July. Scavenger hunters will see a strong railroad presence in the clues for this year’s event.” Whether you are a local who knows the trails like the back of your hand, or a visitor from out of town, this event is sure to please.
Participants can pick up scavenger hunt punch cards at AJ’s Bicycle Shop (123 North Court Street), trailhead kiosks, Fairfield Recreation Center, and MUM Recreation Center. Completed punch cards should be returned to AJ’s Bicycle Shop.
The 30-plus mile trails system is an asset to Fairfield and Jefferson County. The Scavenger Hunt will take participants on much of the trails system, but as Pedrick adds, “our hope is this event will inspire people to explore more of the trails in Fairfield.”
