Eldon Man Facing Drug/Child Endangerment Charges As Result Of Traffic Stop

An Eldon man was arrested on Monday night, accused of driving under the influence with his 5 year old in the passenger seat. A Wapello County Sheriff’s Deputy stopped 34 year old Jonathon Smith on Elm Street In Eldon a little after 9:30pm for improper rear lamps and tinted windows that did not allow clear vision.

As he approached the vehicle the deputy could smell a strong odor of Marijuana and observed Smith with bloodshot, watery eyes.

According to reports a glass pipe containing meth residue and a bag of marijuana were located inside the vehicle. Smith was taken into custody after showing impairment during a field sobriety test conducted at the scene.

He has been charged with possession of a controlled substance, third or subsequent offense, a Class D felony, child endangerment, an aggravated misdemeanor and operating while under the influence a simple misdemeanor.
