On Thursday afternoon around 4:30pm a Wapello County Sheriff’s Office Deputy attempted to stop a 1998 red Jeep Grand Cherokee for several traffic violations. The driver of the Jeep refused to stop and attempted to elude the Deputy. The Jeep went east on 100th Street towards the city of Agency passing through the city and south towards Eldon on Ashland Road. The vehicle became disabled in a farm drive on 63rd Ave. The driver fled the vehicle on foot and entered into a wooded area. The Deputies on scene were advised by a citizen that a male subject was seen in a field north of the Deputies location.
The Deputies were able to locate the male subject in the field and took him into custody without incident. The male subject was identified as Gary David Mooney Jr. Age: 46 of Eldon. Mooney has been charged with Eluding or Attempting to Elude Pursuing Law Enforcement Vehicle, Driving while Barred, Possession of Controlled Substance (Two or More Previous Convictions), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Failure to prove security against liability (Accident related), Fail to obey stop or yield sign, Operation w/o registration, Improper use of Registration, Interference with official acts, Careless Driving, Reckless Driving, Spilling loads on Highway. Mooney also had a Wapello County Warrant – Violation of Probation –Original Change – Forgery.
Mooney is being held in the Wapello County Jail in lieu of $17,000 bond.
