An Eldon man accused of striking an Ottumwa woman with his pickup while she crossed a downtown Ottumwa street back in 2018 is in trouble with the law once again, however this time the charges he faces are much more severe. In that incident, Joshua Grove of Eldon, now 49, was arrested for driving under suspension to go along with other traffic citations. Grove is now facing charges of 5th degree theft and possession of a controlled substance relating to an incident in Van Buren County.
According to the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office, Grove was employed by a company who provides janitorial services to the County School District. Recently 4th grade students at Douds Center had raised monetary donations for the pennies for puppies fundraiser, the funds remaining on site.
Following one of his shift’s the funds came up missing. A check of surveillance footage showed who authorities believe to be Grove committing the act. Upon a search of his persons at the facility prior to the start of his shift, he was also found to be in possession of meth.
He was taken into custody and taken to the Van Buren County jail. It was reported that the students have been compensated the full amount originally raised.
