The Iowa DNR has announced that The popular Trees for Kids grant program is now accepting applications through March 6. Grantees can be awarded up to $2,500 to cover the cost of trees and mulch. All trees for this program must be planted on public property and involve youth with the planting process. Last year, a total of $12,754 was awarded among six grantees.
Also from the DNR, Permanent ice shelters must be removed from all state-owned lands and waters by Thursday Feb. 20th. Ice shelter owners are encouraged not to wait until the last minute to get their shelter off the ice. If a shelter falls through the ice, the owner is responsible for getting it out of the lake.
