Jury deliberations are set to continue today in the murder trial of Jacob Heckethorn, the Ottumwa man accused in the August 2018 murder of William Shettlesworth of Bloomfield. Jurors deliberated for a few hours Friday afternoon before being dismissed by the judge for the three day weekend. Heckethorn is arguing self defense as he also intends to do in the attempted murder charges that stem from another August 2018 shooting, the victim in this case is 61 year-old William Collett Sr of Ottumwa. That trial is still set to begin on February 11th of 2020. Heckethorn remains in the Wapello County jail on a $1 million cash-only bond.
