Covid Onslaught Continues In Jefferson County And Throughout Southeast Iowa

Jefferson County Surpassed 200 active positive Covid cases for the first time Wednesday, reporting 28 additional after rising to 191 on Tuesday. Surrounding Counties were hit hard as well, Henry reporting 72 new cases, Washington 45, Wapello 27 and Keokuk 16 including the County’s 2nd death. Davis County was up 6 cases and at last check Van Buren County was at 87 active cases.

4,764 Cases were reported from around the State, including the deaths of 26 more Iowans, that total now at 1,898. Nearly 2,000 are hospitalized, that number reaching 1,190, 210 are now in ICU, 101 with the use of ventilators.

In Centerville, their Mayor has issued a public emergency, strongly urging residents to wear masks in public, as the MercyOne Centerville Medical Center has reached full capacity after seeing a 300% rise in active cases between Halloween and this past Tuesday.

The State 24 hour positivity rate did decrease slightly dropping from 49.9% to 48.1%.
