The Fairfield City Council met in regular session on Monday night where they moved an ordinance amending downtown parking restrictions from its 1st to it’s 2nd reading. There are still some questions relating to signage and how weather emergencies will be relayed to those residents who reside in the downtown area. The Council also approved submitting a grant application to the Iowa Department of Economic Development for federal funding from the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development. The grant will be for construction costs for the new Jefferson County Kids childcare facility that is expected to serve up to 185 children upon completion. The center will be located adjacent to the Jefferson County Health Center with construction expected to begin sometime this summer..
