This week the Fairfield City Council Authorized the Carnegie Museum Foundation to Apply for Iowa’s Rural Heritage Revitalization Grant on Behalf of the City. The grant amount is up to $125,000. Around $800,000 in improvements have been in the works as part of Carnegie’s Capital improvement plan.
In 2018, A structural and maintenance analysis of the building that was built in 1892 was conducted and the conclusion was that it was structurally sound. Following the analysis, three recommendations were made: Perform masonry work, reinforce the Southwest corner of the building and repair the East exterior stairs. The hope is that some of the projects can be broken up into smaller portions as further funding is sought.
