Cardinal Routs Pekin To Highlight Week 1 Action

The Cardinal Comets routed the Pekin Panthers on Friday night. Maddux Jones went 3/6 with 131 yards and two touchdowns through the air, those two touchdowns were thrown to Griffin Greiner and Blaine Bryant. The Comets were able to do a lot on the ground. Greiner ran four times for 96 yard and a touchdown. Ian Liles ran the ball 9 times for 61 yards but 3 touchdowns on the night. Jones also ran for a touchdown with 5 rushes and 43 yards. Special teams also played a big factor in this game for the Comets as they returned a kickoff and a punt for a touchdown. The comets will travel to Central Lee this week who lost to Van Buren County on Friday. The Cardinal Comets have moved up to 8th in the Des Moines Register’s Class 1A rankings.

Pekin’s Quarterback, Colton Comstock, was just 1-4 with 22 yards through the air.Comstock ran the ball 12 times for 55 yards and a touchdown. Logan Lauderman ran five times for 74 yards and a touchdown with Sven Dahlstrom had 30 yards and a touchdown on the night as well. I’m still waiting for stats from Cardinal’s side. This week the Comets will travel to Central Lee to face the Hawks and Pekin will host Alburnett who were shutout by North Linn 38-0.

For the Fairfield Trojans, Tate Allen had a big night as he had a total of four touchdowns last Friday as they beat the Mount Pleasant Panthers 27-18. The Trojans Quarterback was just 9/20 through the air but had 187 yards and a touchdown pass that was caught by Evan Haines… Allen also rushed for 3 touchdowns on the night. Senior running back Teddy Metcalf was the workhorse for the Trojans with 95 yards on 22 carries. This week the Trojans host the Ottumwa Bulldogs.

The Van Buren County Warriors defeated Central Lee at home on Friday night 46-6. Quarterback Jackson Manning was 9/19 with 142 yards with 2 touchdowns and an interception through the air. Manning also ran for 47 yards and a touchdown.. Sam Warth had a big night in the running game, rushing for 122 yards on 16 carries and scoring a touchdown. Wyatt Mertens and Cohyn Jury each rushed for a touchdown as well. Anthony Dunkin was the Warriors’ leading receiver, racking up 72 yards on 2 catches with a touchdown. Lukas McEntee had the other receiving touchdown. This week the Warriors will travel to Davis County who fell on the road at PCM on Friday
