Area Cross Country Runners Competed At The State Meet Over The Weekend

The state cross country meet took place in Fort Dodge over the weekend. Fairfield’s Gavin Van Veen (18:05.57) finished 96th out of 135 runners on Friday in the Class 3A boys meet.

On Saturday, Gavin Grove (17:52.98) from Cardinal finished 54th in the Class 2A run. Van Buren County Senior Faith Neeley (21:53.38) finished 62nd in the Class 1A girls run with her freshman teammate Payten Poling (22:00.29) four spots behind her.

For Pekin, their lone boy runner finished 49th in Class 1A, however the Pekin girls team finished 5th (177 points) as a team in the Class 1A girls run. Lauren Derscheid (20:58.52) was the first Pekin girl to cross the finish line as she finished 24th with Lauren Steigleder (21:05.02) just behind her at 26th. Mia Clark (22:26.29) finished 77th for the Panthers, Sarah Eubanks (22:37.18) was 87th, Audrey Fariss (22:42.06)finished 93rd, with Zoey Johnson (22:58.32) six spots behind her. Emily Laumeyer (23:52.82) finished 124th to round out the Panthers girls season.
