As it stands, Republican candidate Mariannette Miller-Meeks holds a slim 47 vote lead over Democrat Rita Hart in the battle for Iowa’s 2nd congressional district. Late last week it was announced that Hart had requested a recount in all 24 Counties that reside within the District. The election is set to be certified on November 30th, although the Thanksgiving holiday when County offices are closed must be taken into account.
Here in Jefferson County, the Auditor’s office aims to have their recount completed prior to the Holiday, as they will begin next Monday around 9am. Down in Van Buren County the recount is expected to begin sometime this morning.
In the request, Hart’s campaign manager cited what he referred to as “consequential errors” that were discovered in both Jasper and Lucas Counties.
