Pella Woman Convicted Of 1st Degree Murder In Stabbing Death Of Ottumwa Woman

A jury took less than one hour to to come back with a unanimous guilty verdict in the trial of a Pella woman facing a 1st degree murder charge in the May 2020 stabbing death of an Ottumwa woman. The conviction carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. The 56 year old Boat was accused of killing 46 year old Tracy Mondabaugh of Ottumwa, the girlfriend of her estranged husband at the time of the killing. Testifying in her own defense, Boat admitted responsibility in Mondabaugh’s death. The defense asked jurors to convict Boat of a lesser charge of manslaughter instead of first-degree murder, however jurors quickly determined that the act was premeditated. She is being held without bond until sentencing.
