Pekin got a no hitter and shut down Calamus-Wheatland 7-0 in a Class 1A substate final baseball game at Solon Tuesday night. Starter Tanner Bainbridge (first picture below with state banner) threw 6 and a third innings, totaled 10 strikeouts and had to come out after reaching 112 pitches. Caleb Comstock then fanned the last 2 batters. Kennan Winn (2nd picture below with parents Lynette and Chris) led the 10 hit attack finishing 2 of 3 with a double and scored twice. Brady Latcham was 2 of 4 including a double and drove in 2 runs. Chase Stansberry went 2 of 5. Comstock ripped a double. Bainbridge ended up 1 of 3, nailed a double and crossed the plate 2 times. Comstock contributed a double. Mason Juhl and Lathan Weaver were both 1 of 3.
Calamus-Wheatland was ranked 4th. They entered the game with a team batting average of 368, scoring 378 runs in 36 games while banging out 344 hits. They had 20 each homers and triples plus 78 doubles. The pitching staff ERA was 1.25 and they had only allowed an opponent batting average of 144. They finish the season 33 and 4.
