Ottumwa beat West Des Moines Valley 4-2 in the first game of a varsity baseball doubleheader Wednesday but then dropped the nightcap 7-5. They had 19 hits overall. Trae Swartz went 3 of 6. Jacob Brownlee and Brinden O’Leary both ended up 1 of 1. Logan Chickering finished 3 of 7 ripping a homer, 2 doubles and drove in 4 runs. Zach Burtch was 2 of 4. Zach Bennett provided a triple and a double. Mitch Wood added a double.

Adam Denniston was the winning pitcher going 6 innings, gave up 6 hits and 2 earned runs. Brody Evans got a save, allowing just one hit during the 7th. Brownlee took the loss throwing 3 innings, giving up 5 hits and 4 earned runs. Colton McKinnon went 2 innings, allowed 3 hits and 3 unearned runs. Brody Slack pitched the last inning, fanned 3 batters and gave up 2 hits.
