Fairfield Has 4 Girls Tennis Players Advance To State

The Class 1A girls individual regional tennis tournament took place Wednesday in Fairfield. Yana Gaskell of the host school won the singles title match over fellow Trojan Anatta Charoenkul 6-0, 7-6 (2). The sophomore had taken all 6 sets 6-0 going into the final. Charoenkul is the 2 time returning singles state champion after finishing 2nd as a freshman. She only dropped one game before facing Gaskell. Anatta lost the regional final last year to Yana 7-5, 3-6, 2-6 but then beat her 6-4 both sets in the state championship match.

In doubles, junior Destiny Gridley and freshman Tess Paton of Fairfield knocked off the 2nd and 3rd seeded girls to reach the final where they fell 1-6 both sets against the top seeded duo from Davenport Assumption. They will join Gaskell and Charoenkul at state in Iowa City scheduled May 29th and 30th on the University of Iowa courts.
