Fairfield hosted the 63rd annual Brookhart/Crew track meet Monday and Landon Kooiker (pictured) won the high jump with a record leap of 6-7 that matched the school mark he established earlier this season. Sam Beatty of Mount Pleasant also went 6-7 but finished 2nd on the tiebreaker. He will be listed as sharing the record. Daniel Swartz of Fairfield in 2013 and Jake Redlinger of Washington in 2012 both had the old mark of 6-6. Other Trojan first place finishes included Ashley Bloomquist the 1500 (5:00.76), Julia Fritz the discus (122-5 and a half), the girls 4 by 800 of Mallory Lyon, Anna Dunlap, Hailey Pohren-Gevock and Bloomquist (10:34.32) plus the boys 4 by 800 that featured Mark Diers, Alex Forrest, Kevin Kretz and Dalton Rippey (8:33.31). Adding 2nds for the Fairfield girls were Lyon the 400 (1:07.04), the 4 by 100 with Jill Dunlap, Carly Ferrel, Danielle Breen and Alexis Jones (53.1) and 1600 meter medley made up by Bloomquist, Jones and both Dunlap sisters (4:25.39). The boys taking 2nd included Tristin Waugh the discus (140-6 and a half), Kretz the 400 (53.87), Diers the 800 (2:04.38), Forrest the 1600 (4:45.25) plus the 1600 meter medley that featured Landen Schafer, Blake Metz, Brittan Bowman and Caden Mickels (4:03.92).
Mount Pleasant took both team titles in Fairfield Monday, the girls scoring 191 with the host Trojans 2nd at 99. The Mount Pleasant boys totaled 157 and a half. Centerville was 2nd with 113 while 3rd place Fairfield had 106 and a half. Davis County girls scored 79 which ended up 3rd. They had wins from Africa Brandon the high jump (5-0), the 4 by 200 (1:52.34) and 800 meter medley (1:55.68) both featuring Hannah Schooley, Sophie Spargur, Stacy Wetterich and Alyssa Shirkey. Adding 2nds were Jersey Greever the 100 (13.09) and 200 (28.25) along with the 4 by 400 of Kaylea Hopkins, Olivia Murry, Spargur and Wetterich (4:23.59).
The Pekin boys track team was 2nd at the Van Buren meet Monday scoring 154 and a half. Panther wins came from Brady Millikin the 1600 (4:35.36), Colten Glosser the 3200 (10:50.28), Devin Fraise the 110 meter high hurdles (17.34), the 1600 meter medley made up by Lathe Crochet, Nick Tschudy, Cole Earnest and Glosser (3:49.23) plus the shuttle hurdle relay that featured Quinn Ledger, Crochet, Earnest and Fraise (1:04.15). The 2nds included Logan Kealy the discus (121-6), Ledger the shot put (41-1 and a half), Earnest the 400 meter hurdles (1:01.19), 4 by 800 with Zack Wise, Michael Jones, Chandler Stull and Colten Bishop (9:09.07), the 800 meter medley made up by Kennan Winn, Dayne Eckley, Crochet and Earnest (1:42.01) plus the 4 by 100 of Cameron Millikin, Ledger, Eckley and Winn (46.98). Albia won the championship with 173.
Davis County had Jaxson Sharp finish 2nd in the Fairfield long jump (20-4 and 3/4). Adding 3rds were Kenny Cronin the 3200 (10:18.27), Sharp the high jump (6-0), the 1600 meter medley with Clayton Smith, Logan Williams, Caden Hill and Riley Heller (4:05.34) plus the 4 by 800 of Brody Humphrey, Miles Menster, Seth Emmons and Carson Shively (8:49.87). The Mustangs ended up 5th of 6 scoring 66.
The Cardinal boys went to Van Buren Monday. Trey Albert took 2nd in the 100 (11.77) and long jump (19-10 and 3/4). They had 3rds from Ian Liles the 110 meter high hurdles (18.33), 4 by 800 of Landon Becker, Ben Clark, Griffin Greiner and Christian Bowman (9:12.06), the 4 by 400 with Jarrett Greiner, Becker, Bowman and Clark (3:48.91) plus the 4 by 200 that featured Albert, Bowman and both Greiner brothers (1:36.69). The Comets were 5th of 7 totaling 89 points.
Host Van Buren was led by 3rd place performances Monday. Those included Tayton Bartholomew the 200 (24.37), Austin Denney the 400 meter hurdles (1:01.47), Caleb Johnson the high jump (5-6), Hunter Rodibaugh the shot put (39-2) and the shuttle hurdle relay featuring Bryson Mineart, Lane Davis, Caleb Stoltz and Denney (1:07.49). The Warriors finished 4th with 94 points.
