Area Track And Field Highlights

The host Pekin varsity girls track team rolled to the Jerry Horton Pantherette Relays championship Tuesday with 223 points. Davis County ended up 2nd at 117. Winning were Hunter Lock the 100 (13.89), Remi Duwa the 800 (2:39.98), Emily Laumeyer the 1500 (5:39.16), Lauren Derscheid the 3000 (12:22.98), Gracie Baetsle the 100 meter hurdles (18.4), Katie Jones the shot put (34-8 and a quarter), the 4 by 800 of Maddie Black, Mia Clark, Hollie Loper and R. Duwa (10:55.15), the shuttle hurdle relay featuring Zoey Johnson, Taylor Parmenter, Kalee Hail and Baetsle (1:24.68), the 800 meter medley made up by Zoey Wright, Lock, Sophie Wittrock and Sarah Eubanks (1:57.42), the 4 by 200 that included Mackenzie Dahlstrom, Lock, Chilynn Sevier and Baetsle (2:00.54), the 1600 meter medley that featured Wright, Wittrock, Eubanks and Laumeyer (4:42.06) and the 4 by 400 of Wittrock, Wright, Eubanks and Loper (4:28.59). They had 2nds from Emi Zook the discus (104-11), Kerrigan Pope the shot put (31-8 3/4), Ellie Ledger the high jump (5-0), Taylor Sylvester the 200 (28.94), Lily Fariss the 3000 (13:00), Parmenter the 100 meter hurdles (19.21), Derscheid the 1500 (5:44.31) and Dahlstrom the 400 meter hurdles (1:17.68).

Cardinal won the Chariton boys track meet Tuesday night scoring 145. Comet 1st place finishes included Griffin Greiner the 100 (11.96), Trey Albert the 200 (23.38), the 4 by 100 of Ian Liles, Landon Becker, Jarrett Greiner and Albert (46.78) and 4 by 200 that featured G. Greiner, J. Greiner, Albert and Becker (1:35.45). Adding 2nds were Jarrett Rea the discus (96) and shot put (37-5), Gavin Grove the 3200 (12:08), Liles the 110 meter high hurdles (18.15), G. Greiner the long jump (19-10), the 4 by 800 with Tony Castle, Grant Pedersen, Michael Millikin and Gunner Zugg (10:36) and 4 by 400 of Ben Clark, Christian Bowman, Millikin and G. Greiner (3:49.48). Martensdale Saint Marys finished 2nd with 136.

The Pekin boys track team was 2nd at the Fairfield Trojan Relays Tuesday totaling 137 points, only 4 behind Oskaloosa. Panther wins came from Brady Millikin the 800 (2:08) and 1600 (4:47.66), Colten Glosser the 3200 (meet record 10:24), Quinn Ledger the shot put (41-6), the 4 by 200 of Cameron Milikin, Lathe Crochet, Kennan Winn and Dayne Eckley (meet record 1:33.98) and shuttle hurdle relay that featured Cole Earnest, Devin Fraise, Crochet and Ledger (1:05.45). Finishing 2nd were Earnest the 400 meter hurdles (58.52), Eckley the 100 (11.03), Fraise the long jump (19-2 and a half), the 4 by 800 of Zack Wise, Tanner Conger, Chandler Stull and B. Millikin (9:35.62) and the 800 meter medley made up by Crochet, Ledger, Earnest and C. Millikin (1:41.14).

Davis County wins in the Pekin girls competition came from Alyssa Shirkey the 200 (27.62), Sophie Spargur the 400 (1:04.87) Africa Brandon the high jump (5-0), Olivia Murry the long jump (13-9 and a quarter) and the 4 by 100 (54.66). Adding 2nds were the 4 by 200 (2:02.69), 4 by 400 (4:35.85) and 800 meter medley (1:58.42).

The host Fairfield boys taking 1st place Tuesday were Landon Kooiker the high jump (5-10) and 4 by 800 of Mark Diers, Dylan Harvey, Dalton Rippey and Alex Forrest (8:31.35). The JV wins came from Caden Mickels the 800 (2:14) and 3200 (11:06.76), Chris Kyle the discus (105-6), Aidan Daugherty the 1600 (5:27.01) and Jackson Nelson the 400 meter hurdles (1:09.74). Adding varsity 2nds were Tristin Waugh the discus (138), Forrest the 1600 (4:50.44), Bryan Wilkins the 3200 (10:47.36), Rippey the 800 (2:09.5), the 4 by 400 of Kevin Kretz, Drew Martin, Rippey and Kooiker (3:45.78) and 1600 meter medley that featured Landen Schafer, Carter Ferrel, Kooiker and Kretz (3:58.73). The Trojans ended up 3rd of 6 scoring 123.

Van Buren picked up a victory during the Fairfield boys meet with the 1600 meter medley that included Quentin Story, Tayton Bartholomew, Lane Davis and Jonah Heckenberg (3:58.71). They took 5th overall totaling 59 points.

Fairfield was at Fort Madison for the Timm Lamb Pen City girls competition Tuesday. Finishing 2nd were Ashley Bloomquist the 1500 (5:13.13), the 4 by 400 with Anna Dunlap, Jill Dunlap, Danielle Breen and Mallory Lyon (4:32.05) plus the 1600 meter medley that featured Breen, both Dunlaps and Bloomquist (4:30.49). The Trojans ended up 5th of 9 with 53 points, just 2 away from Cedar Rapids Jefferson. Mount Pleasant took the title scoring 145 and 2nd place Cedar Rapids Kennedy had 118.

The Cardinal girls had 2nds from Alexia McClure the 800 (2:40.24) and 1600 meter medley (4:51.14) at the Pekin meet Tuesday. They were 4th of 8 as a team scoring 65.
