Ottumwa And Fairfield Highlights From Washington Track And Field Competition

The Ottumwa and Fairfield boys opened the outdoor track season with the Steve Roth meet at Washington Thursday. Bulldog wins in Class A included Jonathan Bossou the 110 meter high hurdles (15.77) and the high jump (1st place tie 6-0), the 4 by 800 with Aytonn Bar-Shimon, Blake Foy, Javon Martin and Dante Salomon (8:34.07), the shuttle hurdle relay made up by Isaac Eaton, Bryan Cordova, Eli McDanel and Bossou (1:05.56), the 4 by 100 of Caleb Barndt, Andrew Cole, McDanel and Bossou (44.73) and the 4 by 200 including Charlie Welch, Brandt, Cole and McDanel (1:35.91). The Trojans were among the Class B schools. Winning were Landon Kooiker the high jump (6-0), the distance medley featuring Brittan Bowman, Landen Schafer, Dalton Rippey and Alex Forrest (4:03.81) and 4 by 800 of Mark Diers, Kevin Kretz, Forrest and Rippey (9:08.37)

Forrest of Fairfield was 2nd in the 1600 (5:02.8). Adding 3rds:
Bar-Shimon the 800 (2:06.74)
Barndt the 200 (24.69)
and Eaton the high jump (tie at 5-10)

Kooiker the 400 meter hurdles (1:04.3) and 400 (56.2)
Diers the 800 (2:13.08)

The Bulldogs finished 3rd of 7 scoring 96 which nipped Cedar Rapids Prairie by one point. Mount Pleasant took the title with 139 and 2nd place Iowa City High had 110.
Fairfield was 4th of 7 in Class B totaling 77 and 3/4 points. Fort Madison led the way with 165 and 3/4. Mediapolis ended up 2nd at 113. West Burlington Notre Dame came in 3rd scoring 103 and 3/4.
